    Description

A Great Hybrid horn that is a real beauty with a NEW satin body and brushed slides finish with a clear lacquer topcoat!
WOW, this Conn Director trumpet plays great!
This is a great trumpet and a top-quality instrument by two of the oldest Trumpet makers in the world. Made by Conn and Yamaha, two of the most respected names in brass instruments, this is a Director model trumpet. When
    Conn
    moved their operations from
    Indiana
    to
    Arizona
in 1970 they had their student horns made in
    Japan
by Yamaha for several years. They used some
    Conn
parts and some Yamaha parts. The serial number is P96930, which dates the horn to about 1973. The body has a NEW satin blast finish with the bell interior slides and caps brushed with clear lacquer over all. This is one of the Yamaha style Conn Director horns that have the nickel valves with brass guides. I played a Conn Director Cornet as my first horn and have over 40 horns made by them now. They always have wonderful clear full tones and this one is no exception. I played this horn while I was doing the work on it and fixing lots of small dents on the bell and slides (Melanie said I sound great on this horn, lol, as always). The horn has a smooth and mellow sound and the bell has a nice tight flair for projection. The trumpet is a nice .460” bore and is a very smooth and powerful sounding horn. The horn plays in tune from the bottom to the top. I think it plays as well as the current entry student horns in the Conn-Selmer line! The horn is in great mechanical condition - all the tuning slides work smoothly, including the first and third which are usually frozen and require some kind of repair. The valves work freely and smoothly and return back into place with ease. The valves have very little wear on them and still have nice compression. They are top sprung and are fast and are typical Yamaha style. The valves have new felts in, and on top of, them. There are new corks in the spit valves. There are no big dents in any of the tubing and as we said earlier, just a few small ripples from dent removal, a few dings, and some pitting from normal wear that I felt were too small to remove. When I got this the bell was dented from the valves to the flair. The bell is now in good shape and has a few dings and pings (look at the bell tube from the backbow to the 1
    st
valve and under the lower tube). It has been ultrasonic cleaned and totally rebuilt after the finish was shot and the clear lacquer coated. The trumpet has a student mouthpiece that is still in good shape. It also comes with a NEW gig bag that has a western saddle blanket look. It can be carried over the shoulder or as a normal case. This is your chance – there are lots of trumpets made in India and China that play terribly. Why buy one of those for 9.00 or more or spend upwards of 00 for a conventional trumpet (the Yamaha 233X is a comparable model now and goes for over 00) when you can pick this up for a lot less than that? Take a look...it’s a great horn for a student, comeback player, someone wanting a completely different look, or someone wanting a horn that is a part of Conn history!
