    Description

    Edwardian Neoclassical sterling silver trophy cup. Made by Gorham in Providence. Oval bowl with high-looping handles and raised foot. Engraved presentation on front: "Inter-Lake Yachting Association / Class Q. Trophy / Presented by / Commodore Emil G. Schmidt / Won by / Spider B.Y.C. July 18-21 / 1916." Above presentation is the association's enameled burgee applied over engraved anchors. On back is pictorial engraving of a yacht.
    The Inter-Lake Yachting Association, a consortium of Great Lakes boating clubs, was organized in 1885. Schmidt was a member of the Sandusky Yacht Club. The Spider was captained by Lewis G. Northrup of the Buffalo Yacht Club. Interior gilt washed. Fully marked including maker's stamp.
